Lifelong learning means how we see and process things around us and let them shape our ideas and thoughts that affect our decisions and life courses. It is a voluntary attitude which comes from curiosity and motivation. It is crucial for both personal and professional development.

We are told from a young age that we should get a good education, and that is important. Schooling might help you maximise your potential, but it is only one type of learning.

There are many other opportunities and experiences which can increase your knowledge and develop your skillset throughout life.

How to Become a Lifelong Learner?

Here are few of my mantras to become a Lifelong Learner:

1. Stay Curious: Learners should be open-minded. Curiosity is the key to becoming a lifelong learner. You should be open to new knowledge, experiences, and what they can teach you.

A lifelong learner always has a FOMO of missing on any opportunities, a chance to learn, to do something out of their comfort zone.

If you want to stay curious, always ask questions. There's a reason to everything. Curiosity provides questions, and questions provide answers, and building your knowledge is Lifelong learning.

2. Read! : We know that knowledge is necessary for a lifelong learner. If you want to build your knowledge, then reading is the aid you are looking for. Reading will help you with education, a better perspective, and new ideas for problems.

You can read blogs, newspapers, articles, novels, essays, memoirs, poetry, and magazine stories. You can begin your journey of lifelong learning by reading daily. You don't have to finish the book you start. It doesn't have to be a chore. Start reading some articles and blogs about your interests, and then continue to explore more.

3. Getting out of Your Comfort Zone: We don't want to try new things in life since we are used to stability. We should try to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Discomfort is necessary for us. It is crucial for the growth which comes from lifelong learning.

Sometimes you find your ideal hobby or interest while trying to explore different fields. When you are not restricted by your comfort zone then you can truly explore your interests.

4. Welcome a growth mindset: you cannot become a lifelong learner if you have a fixed mindset. You believe that you don't need any education or experience since you know everything. Lifelong learners believe that with a growth mindset, intelligence and skills can be developed over time with some effort and hard work.

A lot of people have a can-do attitude about something. For example, you liked a movie. You did complete research on the cast and production. It is the attitude of a lifelong learner.

You should apply that feeling to other areas of your life as well, like hobbies and interests.

5. Physical Health is Mental Health: Your mental and physical health goes hand-in-hand when you are a lifelong learner. When you feel good, your productivity for the day is also good. It makes you an open minded person who works efficiently.

It is the holistic approach to lifelong learning. The better you take care of yourself, the better you will perform mentally.
